Germany is expected to once again dominate the medal count in luge, but the U.S. could pull off a surprise or two, especially in the women's events.

The 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics officially begins today with the opening ceremony and a number of early events. Curling began the action over the past two days and continues this Friday, as does the women’s ice hockey competition that saw Team USA beat Czech Republic yesterday.

Luge, bobsled, and skeleton will take place at the Cortina Sliding Centre in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. The new track, built specifically for the 2026 Winter Games, will hug the same mountain slope upon which the sliding sports took place during the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina. The track is named after Italian bobsled legend, Eugenio Monti.
