Jacqueline Kennedy’s first White House Christmas in December 1961 brought a new vision to the Blue Room. She created a Nutcracker-themed tree filled with toy soldiers, angels, birds, ballerinas, and golden snowflakes crafted circa late 1961 by elderly artisans and craftspeople with disabilities from communities in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and Iowa.
